"Behind every success story in Mary Kay, you will find a simple explanation of great faith."
Mary Kay's thought above makes me think of the role of business leaders in management in the simplicity of "faith" that she's talking about.
Sometimes I think we need to think of ourselves as master gardeners who are preparing the soil for what will be planted within it. We could call it our culture, organic, who we are, etc. In the end, what really matters is if we are creating an atmosphere that is conducive to building belief in what it is we're doing.
Belief or faith in what a company stands for or is, doesn't just happen, it must be part of who you are. To create the type of environment that provides an outlet for what a person has to offer is one of those competitive advantages that simply can't be copied or reproduced.
That's one of the reasons when people attempt to spy out what it is that makes a competitor successful, it's almost impossible to figure out. Ususally what is measured are the outward manifestations that are coming from something within the people of a company. Copying what is being done outward has very little long-term value.
And most of the time a huge part of that is the faith and belief of people in what they're doing and what the company stands for.
One of the key elements to is for us as leaders to create the type of ground within our companies that all sorts of unique things can sprout out of; a place where the faith of people can be put into practice. When what is within our people are given room to grow, the results will be phenomenal.
