He Knew the Company and Those Who Work for it Like No Other
We've talked a little about Jack Welch and a major reason how he was able to keep such a strong handle on the vast empire that was General Electric (GE). Part of it, as we said, was in relationship to his powerful personality which permeated the company.
Another key secret to this astounding influence within such a vast company that complicated his personality, was his strong grasp of the people that worked for him.
Like the headline above says, "He Knew the Company and Those Who Work for it Like No Other." That's a powerful statement for anyone to make.
One of the major vehicles for knowing the company and the people as well as anyone has, was the unique classes he periodically held with thousands of his manager/students. They were give and take sessions that very few companies engage in; they weren't monologues, they were dialogues. The results were phenomenal.
It gave extraordinary access to one another, which results eventually spread throughout the whole company. It was one of the key secrets to General Electrics' unprecedented success under Welch's reign.
