The Common Sense Management of Sam Walton - 65

He Gave America What it Wanted

Even back when Sam Walton was still running Wal-Mart (WMT), he was faced with some of the baseless arguments that he was somehow having some type of negative effect upon the small-town landscape. He considered all of this - rightly so - a bunch of nonsense and complete foolishness.

The other side of the coin is that he also knew that small-town merchants could compete with Wal-Mart if they were willing to adapt and change their old way of doing business. Many businesses in small towns have proven that very thing, while appreciating Wal-Mart and the added business and foot-traffic they bring to any area they open a store at.

Wal-Mart%27s%20Everyday%20Low%20Prices.jpgThe bottom line is that Walton and Wal-Mart has given America and Americans what they wanted - low prices all the time. The truth is that the elites that have been attacking Wal-Mart through the years haven't really cared about small-town America, what they cared about was the inevitable entrance of Wal-Mart into their own areas and the inability to compete with them. That's why they've been putting forth false concerns and alleged wrongs by the company.

What is really happening is that they know that they can't run their businesses as good as Wal-Mart, and they'll have to change to compete and survive. They'll have to find ways to become more efficient and run the business leaner; something they' haven't had to do in a long time.

As I always say here, like it or not, the consumers have voted with their dollars and Wal-Mart has won. And when you really think of it, as consumers have, the result of the attack upon Wal-Mart will only hurt the people that most need their everyday low prices. Sam Walton knew this and took the inefficiencies out of the process to give it to them.
