He has an Insatiable Curiosity

We've already talked about Richard Branson and how easily bored he gets and how that's a competitive advantage in his case.

The other side of that is his insatiable curiosity; probably a reason he gets bored. When you have diverse interests, and the desire to interact with numerous areas, it can lead to boredom if you're not able to go to a new thing sooner than you wish to.

With some leaders this could be a negative, especially if they deal with a small amount of products or services, but with someone who has businesses in dozens of different categories, this usually isn't a problem for Branson.

"I'm living and learning every day—it's like being at a university, studying a course you're really fascinated by. And in between all that, I am surrounded by family and friends, he said."

Insatiable%20Curiosity.jpgOne thing to learn from this to me is that his boredom isn't related to a specific thing - he loves to learn - it's related to him wanting to go to the next thing and learn all that he can about that. His curiosity is what drives him, he couldn't survive in the type of atmoshere where he would need to focus on one element of a project.

This just shows again how there can always be paradoxes in people that for the most part won't work for one type of person, but will work for another. There are many people that can interact in a special field and never be bored, while learning continually about their specialty. Others like Branson like to do it more like skipping over the mountaintops rather than going deep into the valley's.

He learns enough to get buy and understand it, and he's off to another thing that intersts him. For him it works. From a management way of looking at it, it's not a negative thing in my opinion. When you think of most managers, they need to know enough so that aren't blind to what's going on, but not too much so it takes away from their leadership. I think with Branson he's found that sweet spot and thrives in it.
