Branson Loves His New Baby

At the edge of the Mojave Airport lies Hangar 78, part of a bunch of buildings that are clean and lit up like a hospital surgery room.

Even though the proprietor of the business and airport is gone, Richard Branson wants to stop by and take a look at the brand new obsession and love that he has: Virgin Galactic.

The interesting thing about this true story is that Branson was due to do an interview on Entertainment Tonight in about 90 minutes from the time he was there. That didn't stop him from wanting to get a quick look at what is becoming a Richard%20Branson%20Bill%20Richardson.jpgconsuming love affair with his newest creation.

I bring this up to show that when we talk about loving what we do, it can't be something contrived or made up; it has to be real. No one goes to an out-of-the-way spot to take a quick look at their emerging operation in the way that Branson did without being infatuated with what is going on.

It's similar to observing the time you're waiting for your child to be born. You fuss around wondering if they look healthy, if they're growing properly, will everything be on time, plus a hundred other thoughts that can go through your mind. You do it because you love and eagerly anticipate the arrival of your progeny.

That's what Branson is doing here. This is what someone that truly cares about what they're doing does. They continually watch the process fascinated and eager to sit it be given birth to. That's why Branson went far out of his way to take a look at what most would consider a silly hangar in an airport holding a few pieces of this and that to simply look at.

Those who love what they do understood why he did it. The rest of us need to.
