He Gets Bored Easily; with Virgin he can Constantly Reinvent Himself
When talking about the great managers and some of the unique things that have made them stand out over the years, one that is somewhat surprising is Richard Branson and his habit of getting bored easily.
To what's interesting about this is how a potential negative has been completely turned into a positive. How Branson deals with his boredom, is by getting into numerous businesses that he can then spread himself around in.
The thought of someone being bored in managment could send some red flags up when you consider that one could go the other way and not be able to
concentrate on the business at hand, because they're endlessly thinking of something else other than what's right before them.
Again, it's amazing to see some of these business leaders who can have what seems to be odd quirks and mannerisms and turn them around and make them work for them.
Who would think that boredom could be turned into an asset for a company and person? It's not at the top of the list of things you look for in someone.
There is one thing that does occur to me when thinking about this attribute with some of our managers or workers, and that is if you have some great workers that do seem to get bored easily, it may work better for them to be empowered to put their fingers into different projects at different times during the month, week or even day.
If they seem to have great potential, it could definitely be worth the effort to make this happen. Some people thrive on cross-training and multiple responsibilities more than others. It's something worth looking into and experimenting with for those workers that show great promise.
