"Dare to grow into your dreams and claim this as your motto: Let it be me."
When Mary Kay Ash started her company, she understood that to reach her goals, she had to be a constant motivator and cheerleader. For people to reach their goals, and as a result the company also, she knew she had to help people tap into something that was bigger than themselves: their dreams!
Concerning her workers she said: "Do you know that within your power lies every step you ever dreamed of stepping, and within your power lies every joy you ever dreamed of seeing? Within yourself lies everything you ever dreamed of being. Become everything that God wants you to be. It is within your reach."
She wisely did what all great managers do, tie the dreams of their people into the success of the company. One couldn't happen without the other.
Her business was built upon sales, and sales can be notoriously fickle for those who are apt to go up and down with the numbers they produce. So it was essential and crucial that she provided continuous encouragement to her people as they experienced their growing pains.
Now the key behind all of that is that she was genuing and truly believed it. It wasn't that she simply encouraged and motivated within a vacuum, it's that she did it within the reality that she lived and believed in. The result, like with other great business leaders we talk about here, is that who she was and what she believed permeated throughout the company and launched her people, along with the company, to great success.
When she said, "Let it be me," she was speaking from experience, and her people knew it was real. There response and results revealed that they believed it too.
