Don’t Limit Yourself
Part of the strategy of Mary Kay was to help people remove barriers so they could achieve success. Of course her company was built around sales, and in light of that, she had many things she said to her people to help them raise to the highest level they could.
One of her quotes offered was, "Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve."
Keeping in mind her motto that you "Put God first, family second and career third," she was relentless in motivating her troops to reach beyond what they currently believed, so they could stretch beyond their perceived limits.
Many people that aren't in sales can sometimes be offended at hard she pushed this mantra, but in the company she built, she understood what it would take, and what type of person it would take to achieve success in her company.
This wasn't contrived in any way, it was real. Some people even resented her and her people pushing them as well. But her motives were pure, and she really wanted to see her core customer - women, succeed.
She offered many hope and the tools needed to reach as far as they wanted if they wished. One of the key tools she used was to encourage her people to remove all the limitations they believed and shoot for the moon. Many reached it as a result.
