Helps Others to See Things as He Does
When considering the statement above, it may seem on the surface like a controlling attitude that could be dominating and hard to work with. In reality it is just the opposite.
From the investing way of looking at it, Buffett never had the desire to have speculators and day traders going in and out of trades and causing all sorts of cyclical fluctuations in the Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-A) stock. He was only interested in those that would hold for the long-term. It was those that would benefit the greatest from his strategy.
So one of the ways he helped them to see the value of this was to never split the stock. In other words he could have tried to pursuade others through logic and reasoning, but would have failed if it was simply seen as an idea. Rather he decided he would show them how to see it. The results were his greatest teaching tool he could have used. It worked!
There are a couple of things that Buffett embraces strongly. One is continuity and the other is predictability. That's why when he decides to buy a company, in essence he's only buying into those that believe in the same values he does; otherwise it would make no sense.
Helping others to see things as you do is to be genuine in the first place. That does more to communicate what you want others to embrace than anything else.
When we talk about helping others see, I'm obviously not talking about using persuasion for the sake of persuasion. Remember the old saying of "He who's convinced against his will is of the same opinion still?" That's why words alone can never be the concluding factor in helping others to see. We need to live and breath our values so that it can be shown and thus seen, not simply talk the talk. People know the difference between the two.
So how did Buffett help others see things how he did? What he lived was who he was, and the results proved that he was right. Those that saw this were more than willing to enter into partnership with him as they were shown upfront who Buffett was and what Berkshire represented. There is no uncertainty when people think about who he was.
The bottom line in how to help others see as you do is to live what you believe and and be genuine and true in it. You'll attract the type of people you want to work with effortlessly and accurately if you do.
