Force of Personality
Some people have stood in wonder of Jack Welch and his ability to cast an influence across the company the size of GE at the time, when some managers have difficulty putting their stamp on just a few employees in many cases.
One of the secrets behind his strong influence at the company was his shear force of personality. When Welch believed in something he was like a rock that could never be moved. He would stand in a place and challenge anybody to move him off of that position; and many did try.
It was that he was fierce in his beliefs and absolutely committed to having them scattered throughout the company. The results were phenomenal as his record shows.
He had an absolute passion for business and General Electric (GE) and he let it all be seen right upfront. He held nothing back and expected those around him to do the same; whether they agreed with him or not.
While this is far from the only attribute he had, it was the cornerstone of the rest he did. Nobody could leave spending time with Jack Welch and leave in a neutral position. That's the type of passion and commitment that Welch brought to the table and which spread like fire through the GE family.
