Sell More for Less

The vast majority of people would look at the simple statement above and believe it's so obvious that anybody could do it. First I want to say that selling more for less isn't the only way to make money in retail as many have sucessfully found out. So first of all, the decision to make that your purpose has to be made.

You either make money more per item selling retail or you make money selling less per item, but make up for it with more product turnover which can result in great profits than selling less for more.

Again, all of this is elementary in thought and explanation, but extraordinarily hard to execute. It takes a tremendous commitment to cutting costs and looking for endless ways to do it. It creates the necessity to have a system in place that will allow you to move the merchandise quickly enough to realize the profits that The%20Wal-Mart%20low%20price%20motto.jpgsmaller margins require you to do.

In other words, once the decision is made, the rest of it is a mad dash to continually find ways to keep things low cost to ensure you're able to remain true to the commitment that was made to the customer.

Even when you consider higher end products sold by other retailers, they have to consider a much differenct strategy of adding value to what they sell. Their purpose is to have higher margins that service and quality make consumers glad to pay for.

So when someone says something like their strategy is to "sell more for less," the concept is easy to understand, but the resulting commitment is a lifelong journey of finding ways to continue making and keeping that a reality.
