Thinking of Leaving a Legacy

We've talked a bit about Richard Branson's foray into the final frontier with his desire to get Virgin Galactic off the ground - literally.

Even when you consider all the advantages to what it will do for the company and the marketing value, I think there's another thing that Branson's considering: his legacy.

When you look at Branson there's a lot to learn and see on starting, running and marketing a business. But when you right down to it, he's been a rascal during his lVirgin%20Galactic%20Enterprise.jpgife, and has had a lot of fun, but lately it seems he's thinking a little more seriously about what he will leave after he goes.

More than anything else, I think that Virgin Galactic represents the crowning achievement of his life if he pulls it off. That still remains to be seen.

It does show how one thinks though when you get to this stage of your life and want to be remembered for something. Like he said at a press conference: "Affordable private space travel opens a new era in human history. We'll go into orbit; we'll go to the moon. This is a business that has no limits."

Even though he does his usual marketing bit, there is substance to his getting the private sector involved with space travel. It could be something that literally changes history. These are the types of things we look at when we see that other than choosing other different areas to run businesses in, it gets pretty repetitious.

Yet there's always that eye we have looking to tackle a new horizon that will be something to put our final stamp on. Branson I believe is looking to do that with Virgin Galactic, and it's a reminder that there's always another challenge to take up no matter what stage of life we're in.
