Keep it casual
There have been an awful lot of stories in the past years that have talked about how relate to workers if you're in management. Branson is one of those who loves to keep it casual and loose.
When you look at these types of things, it can't just be thought of as a tool to get something. The whole mentality of casual also doesn't have to do with being sloppy, like some make think it does.
Like we've talked about Branson here before, he comes off as a clown and being far too laid back, but in reality those that have worked with or competed against him say he has a keen mind and is aware of all the things going on in what he's attempting to accomplish.
While casual can be related to a management style, I think of it more of a lifestyle. It's part of the culture of a business if it's done right.
It goes far beyond simply doing things like having a "casual" dress day or something like that. It's a mentality that permeates a business and its workers, making them relaxed at work, yet that very atmosphere can empower people into tremendous focus. I've seen it happen many times.
This type of atmosphere takes a lot of tenseness out of the workplace so that people can focus their energy on their work and not looking over their shoulder.
Casual doesn't mean unprofessional, shoddy or sloppy; it does mean that an atmosphere and environment exists that enables and people to be much more free and enthusiastic to do a great job. It really works. It's one of Branson's ten keys to being successful.
