Not only has the announcement of employee cutbacks of 13,000 rattled the nerves of Chrysler employees, but the continuous rumors that come out in the media has them even more on edge as they try to figure out their futures with the company, as well as their own.
With the continual rumors of the company being sold thrown all over the place, Chrysler CEO Tom LaSorda has been taking time to calm things down and communicate continuously with his people.
On Wednesday LaSorda sent an e-mail message to the workers confirming that he's aware of all the “frenzy of rumors” out there since German parent DaimlerChrysler AG said that it was looking for partners for the U.S. operations and that all options are open.
Lasorda told everyone that the reason there couldn't be specific comments on what is going on is that there are legal requirements to consider. He added that it was the responsibility of DaimlerChrysler AG to look at all possibilities.
“It may take weeks or months before official comments can be made on some issues,” the e-mail said. Lasorda also added, “Meanwhile, our job is very clear. Our mission is to produce great cars and trucks, to take care of our customers and to restore profitability. Whatever fork in the road we may take, we first have to make sure we’re on the road — and the recovery and transformation plan is that road.”
I do like what he's doing in reminding workers to look at the present and taking care of everyday business. They have no control over what happens outside the company, but to be reminded of what they can do within, is a good thing to focus on during these troubled times.
