The Common Sense Management of Sam Walton - 1
Sam Walton may be the greatest manager in history when it comes to being able to look at things from a simple, common sense perspective. He used to laugh at reporters and business news organizations that would writer stories about things he did that were what he considered what any normal person would do.
We'll look at a lot of his way of thinking and the thinks he did that changed the face of retail marketing forever in these days ahead. But even more so, he changed the way people managed and related to their "associates" in huge ways
that still are impacting businesses across various disciplines.
One major attribute that Walton possessed was that he never gave up. Even when he was basically run out of town with his first store, through a mistake he made in the lease, he still started over and made it happen.
Walton said one time that while things bothered him when they happened, he would never sit there dwelling on them and keep himself stewing about it.
He would face it, learn from it and then go on with what his purpose was as he adapted. This is just the first of many things that seem so simple from the Walton perspective that managers and business leaders are many times tempted to neglect.
We hear all the time about not giving up until you achieve what you want, but when it comes right down to it, there aren't a very large percentage of people that follow through on that one invaluable piece of advice.
