Julie Roehm, recently fired by Wal-Mart (WMT), has filed a lawsuit saying that the retailer "breached her contract and smeared her in the press."
The basis of the lawsuit alleges that Wal-Mart hasn't paid her what was agreed upon when signing up with them about a year ago. The lawsuit was filed in state court in Michigan last month, but now has been transferred to the federal court.
She was fired, unknown executives supposedly close to the company said, because there were ethics issues during the ad account review Roehm managed. That and rumors that there was a relationship between her and another Wal-Mart
executive Sean Womack, which was forbidden by the company, are the two reasons unofficially thrown out in the public arena for her dismissal.
In a somewhat odd claim, Roehm says that Wal-Mart "made false and malicious statements to the media." Throughout the whole ordeal I hadn't ever come across any official statement Wal-Mart made in any way. They pretty much stayed out of the public arena with it.
Since Roehm is a marketing expert, this could simply be a ploy to get herself back into the game and take the attention off of her being fired (I guess it's working, I'm writing about her). This wouldn't be the first time by any means that this type of thing has happened. Look at celebrities and all the actions they perform to keep themselves in the public eye.
The documents show that Roehm had a salary of $325,000 along with a $250,000 signing bonus, restricted stock valued ad $300,000, and other incentive based payments.
