What is it that Motivates Richard Branson?
Branson was quoted one time saying that he loved learning, and he enjoys it so much that he loves to learn about industries that he doesn't know much about.
As a result, he adds that he also likes to learn about them and then take on the big guys in them to see if he can do it better than they can.
What I especially like about this is that this is what true entrepreneurship is really about, and the results are what helps society far better than anything else that's
been thought of.
The inner desire to learn and to than create something better than the existing knowledge and practices is what makes companies great, and people live more interesting and productive lives.
One other thing that he says about things that motivate him greatly is, when he enters into a specific industry and does really good, and then the rest of the industry adapts and changes to how Virgin's doing it; that way everybody wins in the situation.
These are easy to understand motivators that we need to embrace to make our businesses serve customers better and encourage other businesses to follow suit.
Some people may think that this is arrogance and ego, but it's not. It's the desire to compete in a way that makes things better for everybody. At the end of the day, that's the power and purpose of what business really is all about.
