
Richard Branson and His Obsession with Branding Virgin
The one thing that Richard Branson probably does better than anybody else in the world is the way commits himself to the Virgin brand. There is almost nothing he won't do to bring it to the attention of the world.
Something that a lot of people don't know about Branson is that he is inherently shy. So when he actually has to do some public speaking, he really doesn't do very well at the task; one of this few weaknesses.
But here's what he does in spite of it: Anything he needs to so the brand can be promoted. In other words, he faces his fears for the sake of the spread of his company's name. Very few people are that committed to what they do.
Branson is much better in social situations and one on one conversation; that's his strength.
It's the commitment to his brand that separates him from the majority of his competitors. He'll risk his own life so that the brand and company can receive the type of publicity that can't be bought.
When a person, like Branson, in essence sees the brand as an extension of himself, it almost takes on a life of its own as the two almost become one and are promoted as such. I think that's the secret of his ability to brand the Virgin label across hundreds of different product or service lines without it becoming diluted as a result.
The bottom line is that anybody that will obsess on their brand will be able to come up with an endless array of creative ideas to bring the company to the attention of the public.
