In thinking about plans for the next year, all managers need to examine themselves in the light of the results of the plans made in past years and how they performed.
Many times our strategic planning efforts are thwarted even before we begin to implement them.
Here are three things to keep in mind when beginning to look at next years plans in order to give them a great chance at success.
Make sure they're achievable - One of a the worse things a manager or business owner can do is to set goals that are impossible to achieve. To me it's better not to set a plan in motion if it really isn't able to be accomplished.
Small Pieces - A major thing that employees need, is to experience successes in order to create a momentum. Do this by breaking your overall plans and goals into small pieces to ensure there are early conquests. Employees thrive on feeling that they are able to accomplish tasks set before them.
Do your marketing homework - Be certain that the plans that are set forth are in demand by your customers. To set something in motion without even testing the market is a sure way to set our employees up for failure. Also consider the response that your competitors will have when they find out what you're doing.
Practice these simple steps in your planning and it will greatly increase your chances at successfully accomplishing the goals of the company.
