I like this little online page of team building quotes at leadership-tools. It reminded me that the one strength that quotes and slogans can do, is to help people remember things much more easily than possibly any other tool.
Here are several quotes from the page:
Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.”
- Unknown
”The basic building block of good teambuilding is for a leader to promote the feeling that every human being is unique and adds value.”
- Unknown
”Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.”
- Michael Jordan
The only thing about quotes and slogans that we as managers must remember is it must represent the truth of what is represented in the words. Sayings that have nothing to back them in the company, are worse to repeat than not saying anything at all. There is a hollow echo within someone when something inspiring is said that doesn't resonate as a reality within the company.
Nonetheless, when it represents the goals of the culture and reality of what the company or department is, it is a tremendously powerful tool to use to make people feel good about what it is they're doing; and who they're doing it with.
