A long time ago a friend of mine who was an artist, tried to help me to understand one of the passions he had when he was doing his painting. He told me that the secret to him was all in how you approached detail; you had to be almost obsessed with it.
This memory of his telling about this all the time came back when I think about the importance of execution in bringing our various business service and projects to a high level.
If you're a student of business and read and hear about those that offer customers an extraordinary experience, you'll know that all of them pay excruciating attention to detail. When you get past everything else, that is the major differentiator that is extremely difficult to reproduce.
Here's another important secret that underlies all of that: detail implies caring about what you do and the customer's experience. So execution demands attention to detail and detail requires passion for people. Get these right in the niche you serve and very few will be able to compete with you.
