Disney's making some good moves

The Walt Disney Company (DIS), who has for a long time seemed to have lost its way, and has been drifting without purpose, now seems to be making some good decisions that could really propel it strongly into the future.

It began with the purchase of Pixar not that long ago, and now there is talk coming from them that seems to show that some of the internal struggling and battle for the future of the company is over.

The appointment of Meg Crofton as the new president of Walt Disney World two weeks ago is a case in point. One report says, "she's hailed as a team builder, sharp big-picture strategist, strong communicator and someone steeped in Disney traditions."

meg crofton.jpgCrofton said concerning Disney, "It's a very achievement-oriented culture, never accepting status quo, always pushing as an organization and as a group of leaders to do better. I know we'll change, and I know we'll grow. That will always continue. As far as our core vision is, delivering on the guest and cast experience, that's rock solid, and we'll continue it."

The thing about this that stands out is that the entertainment world is in such upheavel and flux at this point, that they are really struggling to find their feet. Crofton, who is a 27-year veteran of Disney, brings continuity at a time when it is desperately needed.

She inherits the mantle of Al Weiss, who has been her mentor, boss and colleague for years. They both have strong respect and confidence in one another; and that extends to fellow workers all around them.

Disney is beginning to understand the entertainment world and what is going on in it across its many platforms. The recent moves they make are a great example of looking at a business and where its at and making the sometimes painful decisions needed to ensure its continued success.

I also think it's great that Disney have appointed a woman to run the company. It's just a shame that they've put up the ticket prices again.

That's the one thing that Disney has had problems finding an answer to; the ticked prices I mean.

This is something that increased competition in the theme park arena has been having an influence on.
