In reference to Bill Ford stepping down as CEO of Ford Motor Company(F), one can say that it may have been too long in coming; yet least it came. There are numerous incidents in history where these type of tough decisions haven't been made. What makes it more important is that Bill Ford had the power to stay in his position if he so chose to do.
What is a great example for business leaders is how he did recognize that this is something he didn't have the ability to deal with. So instead of trying to save face, he did the right thing and hired 
someone that could potentially take the company forward and deal with the new realities of the marketplace.
Understanding his limitations, and doing that publically, took a lot of courage as millions watched everything unfold.
While the story isn't over yet, and his humility will be tested again in how he interacts with new CEO Alan Mulally. Still, at this point he's done the right thing and deserves respect for it.
It's a good lesson for us to understand when we reach our limitations and need to ask for help to bring the company or division forward for all of our customers, workers and shareholders.
