Airports can no longer count on making profits and growth from the airline industry. As a result, across the world; especially in the areas of retailing, parking and catering, there has been a trend toward expanding opportunities in non-aviation sectors.
Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Kamila Zlobinska says: “Here, commercial revenues from retailers, advertisements, ground transport and property development offer a huge boost to infrastructural
investments and even to directly generate profits.”
Given the stress in the airline industry, this has potential to ease some of that if airports grow into shopping and entertainment centers, as well as the core travel business.
We need to look at our own business real estate in the same way. This could mean square footage in a store and its best use, online real estate or even services offered as an extension of the business. The possibilities are endless.
This will probably soon become a huge portion of the income that airports take in. Sometimes the the things we think of as add-ons become a huge portion of the business' overall sales. Think of the things that all people want and need and how to incorporate that into whatever business you're in. The answers, in many cases, can offer astounding satisfaction for customers and great profits for the business.
