In management, one of the most underrated characteristics a person can have is patience. No matter what type of deal you're trying to make or who you may want to influence, the one with the most patience will win.
When I say "win" here, I don't mean that somebody has to lose, but rather that what is set out to be accomplished is completed.
One example would be in trying to secure extra operating funds. Anybody that deals with money knows when someone coming in is desperate and treading water. You can almost feel it within them.
The point is that people shouldn't be in the midst of negotiations when extreme pressures are pushing them to do negotiate for things that they must have. Like one saying goes: The one who wants something the least will always be the winner. Make sure you're that someone.
If circumstances arise where you're in the position within the company that what is being sought must be attained, then you must make sure that you, or the one representing you or the company, has steel for nerves. They must present themselves as absolutely calm and collected. They must be absolutely in control of themselves.
No matter what you're dealing with as a manager, patience is one of the key ingredients for success; let this be one of the characteristics within yourself that is developed to its highest potential. It is the thing that will put you in a superior position concerning the great majority of goals you're trying to accomplish.
