Marico, an Indian beauty and wellness company, had found that a number of their employees were bored with their jobs and didn't seem to be enjoying their assigned jobs.
In response they initiated a questionnaire that would measure what the employees were really interested in and then mete out jobs they would be successful at.
It's pretty basic and simple, yet does a great job of finding where employees fit in best.
The program called "Career Anchors," just makes some statements that the employee then rates themselves on a scale of 1 to 6. One designating that something is never true about them and 6 representing that it is completely true.
"...an employee has to rate himself on a statement like “I dream of being so good at what I do that my expert advice will be sought continually”; or for that matter, on things such as, “I would rather resign than be put into a job that would compromise my ability to pursue personal concerns."This type of test would be easy to create and administer within any company. While some of this is done in certain sectors and in different ways, it has proved great for the Marico company as employees and managers find places in the company where they excel far beyond the previous responsibilities they had. It's definitely worth trying for those who seem to be good workers but have lost some of their edge on the job.
