One of the nagging problems with relationships between employees and business is the misunderstanding of what employees really want or don't want out of their jobs.
Human Resource professional, Kevin Horseman, Deloitte’s Manager of Human Capital Consulting gave a number of insights into todays employees and their current behaviors.
He said that half of the current workforce is not engaged with their jobs at all and as a result don't have a bit of loyalty at all to the company; they feel totally detached.
Today's employee will change jobs eight times throughout their work lives.
If the trends of today continue concerning younger workers entering the workforce at the rate needed to replace older workers, it will be a short 20 years when there will be gaping vacancies in the workplace.
Horseman added that, “The competition for talent is fierce” and, countries the world over, were “about to face a demographic shortfall in talent” that would make the experience of the 1990’s seem insignificant.
The other great problem is that mismanagement always motivates your best workers to leave. This alone should motivate us to change the way we manage.
