With an unusual heatwave hitting Britain and over a third of British employees working in offices not having air conditioning, British firms have seen productivity falling by almost 25%. Along with drop in productivity, it has also put a real damper on enjoying the work itself.
Office Angels, a British recruiter, surveyed over 1,500 employees and over three quarters of Britons are disatisfied with their working environment, that not only limit the creativity of the workers, but hinders them from getting the job done.
Over an amazing 33 percent of UK offices aren't even equipped with air conditioning and the only alternatives are fans or opening windows.
Eighty percent of workers say it is very hard to focus on their jobs and two-thirds add that the extreme heat adds 25 percent to the time it takes to get a job done.
Even more problematic is that another two-thirds of male office workers are required to wear their complete office attire no matter what the temperature in the building is. Around 15 percent say that they have been confronted concerning their clothes when they try to wear something that will tolerate the heat.
Paul Jacobs, Managing Director of Office Angels said, "Despite recently experiencing one of the hottest July days on record it seems some employers are failing to get the basics right when it comes to keeping their workforce happy."
"Small gestures make a big difference - allowing staff to dress according to the heat, investing in fans where needed and even encouraging staff to leave on time to enjoy the summer sun, will mean employees are far more comfortable, relaxed and able to get on with the job in hand."
For me it's hard to believe the mistakes that are being made here that could be remedied rather easily. Treating people like this can not be a good way to make a business great.
