In a recent study by Randstad, an Atlanta-based global staffing firm, it showed that almost 75 percent of employers, noting that 83 million baby boomers are getting ready to retire, were concerned about a shortage of skilled workers.
Over 40 percent of small-business owners added that in their view getting the right people with the right job skills was their top problem concerning employment issues.
On the positive side, Eric Buntin, managing director of operations and marketing for Randstad Employee Review said, "We are starting to see employers and employees begin to respond in a similar fashion, there are still gaps in perception, but they are not as great as four years ago."
untin added that, "Employers may be challenged in the future when it comes to expanding skills or increasing responsibilities of their employees."
There is still a gap in perception between employers and employees here as 73 percent of employers felt that growing employee development was crucial, whereas only 49 percent of employees felt that that their employers were making opportunities for development available.
