Why success is so hard to duplicate!

duplicate.jpgMy favorite example to use with success is Warren Buffett, because he's so well known, people in his field have studied his way of investing and for the most part he doesn't really hide his method of doing things. So the obvious question is then "Why can't people duplicate his results?"

Every area of life has those that excel and those that don't. I remember when I owned and ran a greenhouse and vegetable business, I used to read everything I could on anything related to the food industry.

One time I came across an article about some dairy farmers that were so far in front of their competitors in the quality and quantity of milk each cow produced, that the cows they sold because they weren't good enough to make it in their business, were grabbed up as fast as they were available by other farmers.

Wegman grocery stores are like this in their field. Who else is in their field but Starbucks? Walmart's distribution system has been known for years and yet nobody has began to catch up with them yet.

We could go on and on in specific fields, but you get the point.

There is a lot of talk about CRM technology and how it's going to save the day, yet what happens when everybody has the technology, what will be the thing that differentiates them from anyone else?

There is always something within the successful individual, manager, leader, team and company that looks the same as everybody else, but is impossible to duplicate.

Here is the simple but difficult secret to it all: they see something that others fail to see. They look at something that somebody else looks at and see it completely different. They see value where someone else sees nothing.

Warren Buffet has bought companies, and even after he's done it, the analysts in most cases will scratch their heads and ask publicly what he sees in it and pronounce that they see no value in the acquisition. This is with knowing what he looks for, why and how. They still can't figure it out after they know everything he does and why. Same with all the others.

Why talk about all this? There is something in our areas of expertise and responsibility that always has this type of opportunity to see something that somebody else doesn't. It is there that nobody can touch you. It is there that competitors will look but they won't be able to see. Find it and you've got it made for life. Just remember that if it was easy to see, everybody would be able to copy it.
