Have you ever thought that you could become irrelevant by being too far ahead of others? We can plan, project and think of what it may like 5, 10 or even 50 years ahead; it may not be wrong to do so.
In the case of the here and now though, we must understand looking way ahead and what we need to be doing now.
I've been aware of some companies that had become very good at looking ahead of where people are at and accurately depict where things are going. The problem is that it may be ten years too soon to introduce what it is that is seen.
When people are forever giving you blank looks or aren't able to relate to what it is you're talking about, we may need to step back and see if we're too far ahead of ourselves.
This usually comes about because there is not a strong partnership with your customers and clients. You can come up with a ton of things by yourself that are great, but nobody may buy in because it is totally disconnected from their thoughts and experiences. They haven't been brought along progressively for the ride so they see only an end result and not the steps you took to get there.
It's fine to come up with great ideas, just do it in conjunction with your customers and partners. They'll buy into it because they understood the journey that was taken to get there and they had input in the process.
New ideas that come out of nowhere are going to become harder and harder to sell if it's done completely outside the loop.
