Have you ever found change in your business or division fearful? It is far more common than you may realize and also something that is not always indentified as fear.
One thing to consider with fear is that there is a great difference from feeling fear than allowing fear to rule and dictate what it is that requires change.
Remember that pretty much everybody has fear of some sort or insecurities. Here is a way that you can help yourself and your employees while dealing with the fear that comes with change:
1. One thing to help yourself and employees with is to help them admit their fears. Not necessarily in some type of group therapy setting, but simply in talking about the concerns they have over coming change.
2. Another thing to think about is whether the business itself is adding to the fears through its own insecurities.
3. Take these two easy steps to counter both.
- Help your employees and yourself to understand that there is a difference between the types of complaints that are personal attacks or complaints that get people to negatively agree upon something. Rather help them to learn to complain in the way that helps their understanding and thus open up themselves to the change.
- Another thing you can to is to help them to see that everytime they are doing their 'viral fear thing' at the watercooler, that it is revealing that they haven't worked out their concerns over the situation. From there try to get them to express themselves again over their concerns.
Do these things and it will help you, your employees and the company to handle change much smoother.
