When I used to own a business supplying an array of foods to various outlets, one of the areas of knowledge we had to know was the mircronutrients that had to go into each product we grew.
Now on the other side of it there were the macronutrients, the three major ingredients that were also applied. Now in managmement, the macronutrients could be considered the cost of simply being in the game. Whereas the micronutrients of management are those little things, if not done right and consistently, will determine who will win or lose the business battle at hand.
One of the fruits of knowing whether you're doing the small things right is your customer responses. Nothing more! The customer is king.
This is one of the great reasons many companies can get the same information and one flounder while the other emerges in great success.
We've talked a little about this lately and I'll say it again: execution is the key here! The micronutrients of business is the successful execution of the thing the team is attempting to accomplish, in a step-by-step way.
What's amazing about the analogy of micronutrients and macronutrients as they apply to business, is that the macronutruients, in general, have more room for error than the mircronutrients. It is the small things that need to be especially done well. Have you found this to be true in your area of responsibility?
