In management there are two things needed in all circumstances, no matter what it entails, and that is a manager that handles the overall big picture and another one that takes care of the day-to-day operations.
Within that reality, there is of course the need for continuous communication and making sure that you're each on the same page.

The manager that handles the day-to-day operations, is of course strong and interested in details and small things that can potentially undermine where things are going.
Usually the one with the big picture will begin a company or enlarge a department's purpose and vision. The operations manager will take from the big picture and apply practical steps to assure that the vision and purpose come about and is successful.
To have these two types of managers are essential to the success of any business enterprise. Make sure they exist in your department or enterprise.
Having these two essential elements in your business leadership will greatly increase the growth and profitability of any company.
