In this study concerning self-awareness and it's ability to be switched off, I found myself thinking about how this could apply to various parts of a business and its employees.
From the very beginning of a process I could see how this has great potential. First I thought of hiring itself. If someone is being hired for a job that requires great concentration, could there be something developed that could offer insight into whether a person could focus intently or not.
What made me think of this is that when I talk to all sorts of business owners and managers, I always hear about the employee that lives in the endless "crises." You've seen them, they can't go through the first hour of work without relating their current crises and how it is affecting their "terrible" life.
One of the things I got out of this brief look at the brain is that this is probably related in some way to this type of individual. Those that live in perpetual crises mode, seem to be only able to be aware of those supposed situations that always happen upon them. In other words, if my thinking is clear on this, they are unable to focus on anything else; including their job duties.
Another thought I had was concerning people that are looking to be promoted in the company. Is there some insight here that could help to recognize those that would fit into responsibilities that they could excel at? Would that enable there to be a lot less people promoted and lost because they really didn't have the ability to focus on what is at hand?
I would like to hear what your thoughts are on these insights and questions.
