Secrets of a Niche Market

unk.jpgTo be able to compete as a business we always hear about narrowing things down into a niche that you can serve. This is the correct advice for all small business owners.

The problem comes sometimes in misunderstanding what a niche means. Let's face it, everything in the world, whether a product of service is pretty much being served. So how can something be a niche if it's already being served?

Ah, the answer to that is what will put you on the path to business success.

First of all know that when you talk about a niche market it's not talking about simply serving some type of contrarian market or idea (it could be that, but you would miss the real point), but rather it is seeing something within various markets that nobody else sees. Not just that, it is seeing, but seeing before and in a different way than anyone else is seeing.

Here is the key:  if you have a great idea, but you see others doing it all over the place, you don't have the idea of niche yet; it's already being done - you're too late. But a true niche market is one that invades a market from a different perspective, a different combination of existing things that can be arranged or put together to offer a truly new product or service.

Creating your own niche market means that you are seeing something that others aren't. It is there that there is little if any competition. Why? People are afraid to go places that somebody else hasn't gone before. There you have the secret right there.

How do you become successful in this type of market? Learn to be comfortable with being a pioneer with no road to follow. Learn to be comfortable with living there. In this uncertain place you can then let your imagination go and simply flow with thoughts, ideas and new things that can emerge once you are resting in this uncertain place.

This is the true secret of what a niche market is and what the purpose of a company is. Go into the unknown and live there. There are few that are willing to travel that path.
