There was a post on ducttapemarketing that really caught my attention today. To me it is reminiscent of what is happening in the online world and the empowerment and democratization that it is giving businesses across the board.
This is how it is reported:
"Spotrunner a start-up TV ad agency created by the founders of Firefly and PeoplePC, is a service that allows small local advertisers to customize one of a growing library of TV commercials to use in their local market. The user pays only $500 to use the professionally produced template and then can build a media schedule and run the ad using Spotrunner's ad placement interface that boasts local targeted spots for less then $10 in non-prime time."
As is also reported, and as many of you know who have searched out whether TV ads will make sense for you, the cost of professionally produced ads are in the range of $5,000. With Spotrunner those costs will be narrowed down to a tenth of that.
At this stage the templates would have to be considered generic, and yet there is the ability to customize your campaign that I think is a great feature that had to be included.
To me this has great potential as the continual empowerment of people and businesses grows and grows. Not only has a barrier-to-entry in the area of TV advertising been lowered, but the direct involvement of been freed up as it allows the ad to be created at the most convenient time of the user.
A major thing to consider for your business is that is won't be the answer to all things, but it does add another arrow in your marketing quiver that can give you a local presence and advantage over your competition.
Is this something that you believe can be beneficial to small business? Let us hear your thoughts.
Here's a podcast with Spotrunner CEO David Waxman, discussing the service.
