
I wrote about Google entering into the online financial news arena today on another blog I write. There are some important things to consider when you see the various moves that Google is making overall and in this area specifically.
If you're a current business owner with only one high-moving product or service, you are at risk if anything in that area slows down at any time.
When you look at Google you see that they have taken that thought into consideration as the search area will eventually slow down to a steady, normal pace as worldwide access to the Internet matures and growth will happen at a pace that all healthy businesses experience as a market matures.
So having several product lines or services is a key to continual growth and profits with any business.
Now I want to talk of something a little more hidden in the recent move that Google made. If any of you understand and study demographics, you know that baby boomers are at the stage of beginning to retire. As a result many are thinking in terms of their financial health during the coming years.
One of the ways that has come out has been the growth, even last month, of online queries concerning financial products and tips. It is up 10% last month according to Nielsen.
What's important about that? Well if you're serving that sector you can be happy about this trend that is going to continue for years. But in reference to customer retention and caring about them, and how they think of your business, this is a great opportunity to think of things you can offer them in this area as a service of the company.
I don't necessarily mean products or services that may not be connected in any way to what your company represents, I mean more like putting together a brochure, for example, that gives Web site addresses of several companies that offer products and services that they are looking for, with your company name on them as the provider of this "free" brochure.
Any business could have this type of thing as a complimentary service for their customers that they will appreciate you for providing for them.
There are an endless amount of things you could put together or offer that could really serve your customers and business well. Do a little brainstorming with your employees, fellow managers etc. and see what they can come up with. You can ride this trend for a long time and anything you can do to help others in this area will be appreciated and rewarded.
