Now the last thing you must learn in making sales projections is in understanding your marketing strategy. In the end this will be the key ingredient, combined with knowing your competitors and knowing how to gain market share.
How do you market effectively so things can be measured? Ask yourself some questions about the products or services you offer: What if I offer a very similar product that is close to the color, price and made of the same materials?
The answers to those types of questions, should be the things that determine that if it was you making the choice, why would you buy what you are offering over a competitors.
What I am talking about here is what we call a commodity. This simply means that you have something that anybody can make copies of, or knock-offs that can then be priced lower than what you have.
When you get an answer to that question, you will have an idea of where to start your marketing campaign that will help you gain market share. That's why I always talk about innovating here. The point is if you can't find an answer, how will you be able to compete?
Even if you hire someone to help in your marketing, you should still have a basic understanding of what it is your business, products or services stand for. That way it will make you understand how to make your projections much more accurately and successfully.
You must know your competitors and make your product and service something that is hard to duplicate in a quick, easy and inexpensive way.
What does this have to do with projecting sales? How can you make any projections, if what you offer is so easy to duplicate and can be competed with by price alone? The answer is that you can't.
So market that unique thing that makes your company and products who you are, and you will be able to project reasonably well what you will do for the coming year.
