The steps to take are simple and very inexpensive.
All you have to do is register for the service and you will be asked to download a plug-in. Before you send your e-mail message, all you have to do is click on the “Secure” button on the toolbar, and the message and anything included with it is immediately encrypted, digitally signed and sent to the receiver.
If you’re outside the Verizon family, all you have to do view the message is go to the Verizon pick-up center where are able to read your e-mail after answering a specified question known only to the sender and receiver of the e-mail.
Verizon Secure Mail meets the trusted encryption standards (PKI, X.509, S/MIME) that allow e-mails to be sent securely.
The service is available now nationwide for $6.95 a month per mailbox. The service is available initially to users of Microsoft Outlook™ and Outlook Express™ e-mail services. Customers can visit business.verizon.net/securemail to sign up.
