There are a lot of misinformed people that think if you are genuinely concerned and care for your employees, that this can be used against you and undermine achieving your goals. This misconception needs to be thrown away.
a
In my personal experience, it has never been better for the company purpose and goals, than to really empathize with my workers.
a
One of the things that come up when talking about this is that there is the concern they will just run over you if you do this or not take your responsibility for their performance seriously.
a
Again, I have found this to be absolutely false. As a matter of fact, I have found the opposite to be true. When showing genuine concern, I have found that there is much more response on the workers part to get the job done. Not simply for the company bottom line, but for me!
Along with this there is included, an unwritten expected response by their fellow employees that they toe the line and do their job. There is a true appreciation for being treated well, and they respond by a self-policing that is never officially mentioned.
a
Also in this atmosphere there are higher expectations that are required. When everyone truly enjoys the business culture and are treated well, they don’t resist when an employee has to be taken to task for things that they fail to do. I don’t mean here when they try and make mistakes, I mean when they simply refuse to be part of the team and their refusal is making it harder on their fellow employees to give great service or perform high standards.
a
Here is an example of how one situation was handled.
a
In these cases, never in my life have I had an employee attack the handling of that particular type of their fellow employee, rather I usually have them say that it was about time the situation was taken care of.
a
So don’t be afraid to be compassionate toward your employees, they will reward you with fantastic response and service to you and your customers.
