We read a lot about cross training our employees so that if something happens someone else will be able to step into their place without there being too much of a loss of quality and quantity of production.

I’d like to suggest something a little different in purpose and practical outworking.

I know with myself I have done what I call cross-reading which I define as simply reading (in my case) a variety of subjects that are apparently unrelated to one another and then looking for different things that can result in interrelated combinations.

The purpose of this exercise in my life in connection to business, management and innovation, is to see that there are many things happening in the interactions that are going on between people that are not readily seen from a cursory look.
a
The purpose that I do this is to train myself to look for things that aren’t easy to see when they are looked at as something that stands alone. Nothing in this life or world stands by itself, even if they think they do.

It is the same when you’re looking for solutions to business or management problems that you always seem to be hitting a brick wall when trying to solve or go beyond the norm.
a
However it is that you gather information, whether through reading, audio, music, video or a combination of all of the above, try doing it with diverse subject matter that seems to be unrelated to one another. You will at times find some interesting insights and solutions to problems and challenges that you hadn’t seen before.
