Is a Virtual Office going to be part of your Strategy?

virtual.jpg

Concerning the assessment of idea of the Virtual Office, Thomas H. Davenport and Keri Pearlson, reporting for the MIT-Sloan Management Review, have recognized several widespread practical situations that need to be considered; they list them like this:

Telecommuters are workers with fixed offices who occasionally work at home.

a

Hotel-based workers are persons who may be domiciled elsewhere but off on temporary assignment. During this time, they come into the office frequently, reserving a cubicle where they can use the telephone and link their laptop computers to the network.

a

Tethered workers have some mobility, but report to the office on a regular basis.

a

Home workers operate entirely from a room in their homes.

a

Fully mobile workers are on the road or at customer sites during the workday.

While virtual work is a very desirable practice, a business must be very clear about what style of virtual office best fits their requirements. To make it worth embracing, managers must learn to take up innovative methods in the above possibilities. a

Obviously, since there are different contact requirements, there will have to be new communication strategies to substitute for those that have been discarded.

a

You will need to train you people to be know how to receive and disseminate information. There will be a need to supply additional training on how to advance their self-management skills and how to approach working on your own at times.

a

Adapting a virtual office strategy can be a real recruiting advantage for great talent. Make sure you consider all angles and possibilities as you enter into this popular alternative way of doing business.
